Logwin AG Mönchengladbach

With over 5,500 employees in 40 countries Logwin ranks as one of the leading logistics service providers worldwide. It has divided its activities into two business segments – “Solutions” (customer-integrated contract logistics solutions) and “Air + Ocean” (global air and ocean transportation).

Where textile logistics are concerned Logwin organises the entire flow of goods for its customers worldwide and realises the complete logistics from production to sale.

Project aim

The aim was to expand existing transhipment and storage capacities to include a manual system whose output could be increased during peak times. The distribution center in Mönchengladbach was equipped with a new manual trolley system that improved the performance capacity of the location considerably.

Solution

At each of the 10 incoming goods gates there is a charging and a discharging rail on which coupled empty trolleys stand ready. The employee can remove the goods from the transport bars in the HGV and load them directly onto the trolleys and can slide the loaded trolley trains manually to a drag chain in the incoming goods area. From here the goods are conveyed automatically into the incoming goods buffer on the 1st floor. Operators receive the goods that have arrived on the first level and push the trolleys into aisles.

Once item quantities have been checked the trolleys are pushed into storage. When the customer calls off an order the respective trolleys are moved to the outgoing goods buffer. When the lorry arrives the operator pulls the goods that are ready and waiting in the outgoing goods buffer to the outgoing goods area. The empty trolleys are pulled back into the incoming goods area and placed ready for use again at the incoming goods gates.

Project features

High level of flexibility thanks to manual operation

Seamless transport into/out of the HGV

Sorting of the goods according to country

Optimum utilisation of space and productivity due to the empty trolley bunker installed below the ceiling.

Solution implemented

Trolley technology

The 763 trolley system is the classic solution for hanging goods conveyor technology. Robust and durable it can convey and distribute goods over long distances either manually or automatically. In addition to its proven standard configuration for hanging garments, this rail-based system can be customised for applications in other branches. In the automotive sector, for example, this system is used for transporting cockpit components, interior door trims or car seat covers.
